Priority & weighting

AdButler's "Priority & Weighting" settings allow you to configure how often an ad or campaign is served. Ads with a higher priority will serve (if eligible) before ads of lower priorities, and ads with a higher weighting will serve more frequently than those with a lower weighting.

Priority & Weighting

Priority

The "Priority" setting controls the serving priority of a campaign, ad item, or channel. Priority levels can be set between 1 and 5, with 5 being the highest. Higher priority ads will always serve first unless none are eligible.

When an ad call is made to AdButler, the server moves through the avaliable ads checking their priority. If no ad is in a single priority tier, the server moves to the next one, until it finds a suitable ad. In this way, the ads in tier 5 will always have higher priority than tier 4, tier 4 will always have higher priority than tier 3, etc.

The priority for all ad items, channels, and campaigns are set to [4] by default.

How to set priority

  1. Navigate to the assignment page of the ad item or campaign you're working with.
  2. Scroll down to "Priority & Weighting" and expand the tab.
  3. Use the dropdown next to "Priority" to select which priority you would like to select.
  4. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

Weighting

"Static Weight" controls the probability of being served. Whether the weight is applied to a campaign or a creative within a campaign, it is a direct ratio of how often it will be served to how often other members of the selection pool will be served.

The ratio is "weight/the total weight in the zone". For example, there are three campaigns assigned to a zone with weightings of 1, 4 and 5. Applying the ratio, that works out to a corresponding probability of 10%, 40% and 50% chance of a given campaign serving.

The static weight for all ad items and campaigns is set to 1 by default.

How to set static weight

  1. Navigate to the assignment page of the ad item or campaign you're working with.
  2. Scroll down to "Priority & Weighting" and expand the tab.
  3. Next to "Static Weight" enter in the number you would like to set the weight to.
  4. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
