About Ad Items

An Ad Item in AdButler is an object used to serve an image, HTML5/Rich Media package, custom HTML, or Flash ad. Depending on the type of ad you are serving, you will create an ad item to serve it. Read more about different ad item types.

There are two methods for serving ad items in AdButler, outlined below.

Serving an Ad Item Directly Inside a Publisher Zone

You can upload individual ad items directly within a publisher's zone. This approach is recommended for creating a fall-back or default ad to serve so that you don't end up showing a blank zone in the event that there is no inventory available to fill it.

  1. Navigate to the publisher zone where you want to add the ad item.
  2. Under the "Ad Items" table, click on the "Add New" button.
  3. Choose the type of Ad Item you want to create.
  4. Fill in the required fields marked with a red asterisk [*] and any additional fields you need.
  5. Setup your ad item assignment details below to outline how this ad item will be served.
  6. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
You can only create an ad item that is associated with the type of zone you are creating it in (eg. you can't create a VAST video or text ad item inside a standard zone. Read more about zones here ...

Serving an Ad Item As Part of an Advertiser Campaign

Using a campaign to serve ad items offers multiple benefits over creating individual ad items directly within a Publisher zone, such as: being able to run A/B tests on ad creatives, uploading multiple ads to a single campaign and setting impression limits for each ad, easily assign/un-assign campaigns to multiple zones with minimal effort, and keeping statistics organized across multiple advertisers.

  1. Navigate to the advertiser campaign where you want to add the ad item.
  2. Under the "Ad Item" table, click on the "Add New" button.
  3. Choose the type of Ad item you want to create.
  4. Fill in the required fields marked with a red asterisk [*] and any additional fields you need.
  5. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
  6. Assign the campaign to serve by clicking on "Assign to Zone" under the Zone Assignments table.
You will only be able to assign a campaign to certain types of zones depending on the type of campaign you created. Read more about how to assign campaigns to zones and channels...
