Assignment overview

To serve a campaign or an ad item in AdButler, you need to assign it to a zone or a channel. While doing so, you must specify how your ads will be served. The assignment includes settings such as how frequently an ad should be served, when it should be stopped serving, what priority that ad receives against other ads, which audiences to target, and any financial statistics to include as impressions or clicks are recorded.

Ad Item Assignments

When you create an ad item directly inside a zone, you will immediately configure its assignment details. The details specified in an ad item assignment are applied exclusively to that ad item.

Ads created within a zone cannot be assigned to other zones. We recommend creating an ad item directly within a zone only for fallback or house ads. For more information, read Setting a default or house ad.

Campaign Assignments

When you create a campaign, you can choose whether to configure the options for scheduling and targeting on a campaign level or per ad item. You cannot change these settings once the campaign has been created.

Configuring the pacing, scheduling, and targeting level of a campaign in AdButler

If you chose to configure the options for scheduling, targeting, or both on an ad item level, you will only be able to change those options on a per ad item basis as well. When assigning the campaign to a zone or a channel, you will configure only its financial and frequency capping options.

If you chose to configure the options for scheduling and targeting on a campaign level, whatever you set for those options will apply to all ad item items in the campaign. Similarly, when you make any changes to the campaign assignment's scheduling and targeting, those changes will apply to all the ad items in the campaign.

Once you've made a campaign, you must create at least one ad item in it. You can then assign the campaign to a zone or a channel. We recommend using campaigns in most ad serving setups, because it lets you easily serve one or more ad items to different zones and even different publishers. This also lets you track and view the ad items' statistics as one group.

You must create a new assignment each time you assign a campaign to a zone.
